Summer Work and Travel in 2019
Hello, my name is Nathakarn, Bloom for short,
my international friends call me Bestie.
I was 20 when I joined the Work and Travel Program
with American Learning, in 2019.
My job position was Lifeguard
at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Arlington, Texas.
It was a very memorable moment that I’ve ever got in my entire life in USA. If you’re ever interested working in Lifeguard position, please don’t be hesitate to choose it. Imagine how amazing it was, wearing bikinis, working in Water Park in summer. Enjoy getting tan and working in water like you are always playing with the guests.
Also you can enter both Water Park and Amusement Park for free. I tried all the best rides in Sixflags Hurricane Harbor and Sixflags Over Texas: Tornado, Wedgie, Geronimo, Wave Pool, Rapid, Blue Raider, Lazy River, Black Hole, Texas Giant, Titan, Justice League, Mr. Freeze, Sky Screamer, Superman, etc.
I met many wonderful international and American friends, they are all incredible! We had many (small) parties together and everyone was there, Thai, Turkish, Ecuadorian, Dominican, American, and Filipino. I hung out with my Dominican friends a lot. I enjoyed learning their language and they were learning Thai from me too! The internationals are all nice to me and fun to be around with, I hope to see them again someday.
On the last day at Arlington, my supervisor, Edson drove me and my Thai friends to Sundance Square, Fort Worth; just because I’ve never been there and he was free to drive us there. We enjoyed hanging out at Whataburger and taking photos together that night.
And the rest of summer after the job was done,
we traveled! We flew to Los Angeles, California. We went to many dream places, Hollywood Sign, Hollywood Walk of Frame, Torrance Beach and Universal Studio. We took Amtrak from L.A. to San Francisco, the view from that train is breath-taking, and I wish I could go back there just to enjoy the train for another 12 hours again. We went to another wonderful places in San Francisco, Pier 39 and Golden Gate Bridge. I have to say that the Golden Gate Bridge is the most beautiful thing that ever exists in this world.
Lastly, visiting and spending 3-4 months in USA last year became one of the best memories in my life, and I’d like to go back there again for sure. I met and spent summer with my new Thai friends who’s also joined the program with this agency, American Learning. They all treated me well like their sister, so I felt like I have another family there, and to be honest I never felt missing home at all when I was there. I feel so lucky for choosing to join this program with American Learning, they brought me to meet all the amazing friends and places. Also this agency were nice to me and also treated me like a sister too, I love you so much American Learning!
